I want to show my Persian
Have you been thinking about entering your fluffy, beautiful Persian in a cat show?
If you have ever been to a cat show you probably have the urge to start showing your Persian. It is quite easy to get the fever. Exciting, electrifying, ecstatic are some words used by so many fans the attend the many cat shows around the country.
Using the CFA association guides I will show you the basics of entering a cat show for the first time.
Using the CFA cat show calendar, find a cat show close to you. Find the dates and location and start working out a plan to attend. If you can find a cat club or someone that has entered the cat show before they can be a HUGE help. CFA can help lead you with your search on both of these.
Entry form Preparation
Use either of the below methods to register and get started showing your Persian cat. Print the mail in form as a guide makes it really easy.
Purchase a set of cat show cage curtains for the cat show. ShowCatStyle and CastlePaws are great sites to obtain these. Half the fun of the show is decorating your cage. Many Persian owners enjoy ruffles and fluff as they brag about their Persian. Pick up some matching pillow covers for her to lay on also.
Cat show practice exercise
Pretend it is the day of show and do what a judge would do. Rub your hand over her break (the section between the eyes just over the nose). Feel her head, front and top. Check inside her mouth for the bite, feeling out her face. Run your hand along her body to the tail area. You want to get her accustomed to the actions of what a judge would do.
Now the show will not be a quiet place so introduce her to lots and lots of sound. She will be in an indoor area that will have many noises of people. Like what you would see if you went to a carnival, fair, or even a exhibit show.
Do these routines daily as prep before the show. Once you have seen a cat show judges routine of checking a cat. . . then you should follow the routine on your cat, in that order so to speak.
Day before cat show
You will need to take many things with you to the show so I have listed some of these below. Pack what you need or think you will need. Above all have fun, meet people, and enjoy this adventure.
Bathe your beauty the day before the cat show. Use the bath routine that both of you are familiar with and don’t forget to degrease and rinse really really well.
Pack the supplies you will need for the show and don’t forget about your needs also. It will be a long day at the show and you will need a good night’s rest, and plenty of water.
Have fun. Yes getting a ribbon would be nice but visiting and enjoying other Persian owners is the real win.
